Gurie Grosu - Metropolitan of Bessarabia - the 70th years from passing to eternity

Gurie Grosu is one of the prominent personalities of the church life in Bessarabia. We celebrate 70 years since the death of Gurie Grosu. In November, 1936, he is suspended from the Saint Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, from the position that he holds, and then he is retired,as a result of unfounded accussations which would be aimed wrong management and financial administration of Bumbăta and Rădeni forests, gave them into use of Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia, as well as he would have benefited personally from the incomes from the exploitation of the heritage „Bishop's House” and the cashing of income from Hârjăuca Monastery, etc. A number of personalities, including Nicolae Iorga, Constantin Cernăianu, SebastianTeodorescu, Nicolae Popescu-Prahova and others stand up for Metropolitan Guri Grosu. But the case had a great impact on the involvement of King Carol, who does not forgive Metropolitan critical attitude towards abdication from the throne and the divorce from Queen Elena. As a result of this process, the Metropolitan withdraw from function and he was settling at Cernica monastery, where he was buried.
