Alexandru Odobescu was an important Romanian archaeologist, historian and bibliophile, recognized for initiating the systematic study of the old Romanian book. Among his notable contributions are the discovery of the "incunabula of Romanian printing", such as the "Liturghierul lui Macarie" and the "Tetraevangheliaru". He was actively involved in the formation of a national library and systematized the bibliographical approach, describing old books and elaborating the Bibliography of Dacia in 1872. Passionate about books, Odobescu created works considered works of art, setting standards for the printing and presentation of books.
