Medallion „Librarians in time and space”. Alexandru Tzigara-Samurcaș

Abstract

The article offers a brief portrait of Alexandru Tzigara-Samurcaș, a prominent figure in Romanian culture. His professional development as an art historian, librarian and museographer is presented, with an emphasis on his fundamental contributions to the development of the Carol I University Foundation (currently the Central University Library) and the National Art Museum (today the Romanian Peasant Museum). The text reveals his involvement in promoting Romanian cultural values, in the establishment of the Romanian Librarians Association and in his teaching and editorial activity.
